THE FOUR-FOLD WAY OF DW

In a 1980 issue of Different Worlds, the late Glenn Blacow identified four basic RPG player archetypes. Blacow's original article is reproduced here.

Greg Costikyan subsequently wrote an article called "Profiles from the Four-Fold Way" in which he gave an example character of each of the four types. I can't now find a copy of Costikyan's article, but I recently re-read a superhero RPG pastiche of it by Bruce Mason & Alan Jeffreys, which has inspired me to create, in the manner of Costikyan, four DungeonWorld characters based on Blacow's archetypes.

Blacow's four archetypes have been added to over the years, but I've gone with the original four, which are:

- The Power Player

- The Wargamer

- The Roleplayer

- The Storyteller
